The opening ceremony for the eleventh edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League has been postponed and now will be held on April 7 instead of the previous date April 6. The venue for the opening ceremony also has been changed from the Cricket Club of India(CCI) to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with the budget being reduced by almost Rs 20 Crore as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official. According to the sources,”The opening ceremony was earlier planned for April 6, but was later changed.” The decision, reportedly, has been taken at the behest of Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators.
IPL 2018 Opening Ceremony Re-scheduled
The 11th season of the most beloved and most favored cricket tournament in the world is scheduled to kick-off on April 7 at Wankhede with the opening game between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and the two times champions Chennai Super Kings, who are making a comeback in the league after serving a two-year long suspension.

According to a BCCI functionary, “Earlier the opening ceremony was scheduled for April 6 at the Cricket Club of India. Now it has been decided by the CoA that it will happen on April 7 at Wankhede before the 2018 IPL opener”
He also added, “Earlier the budget for the opening ceremony was Rs 50 crore (approved by the IPL governing council), now it has been reduced to Rs 30 crore. This call, too, has been taken by the CoA.”
Although, for the rest of the tournament, the schedule remain unchanged. The tournament will start on April 7 and end on May 27 and the final will be played between the winner of Qualifier 1 and the winner of Qualifier 2 at Wankhede Stadium on May 27.
